how much is 1 defense?
Since there is such a HUGE price gap between 4 and 5 defense, what is the actual decrease in damage coming from that 1 Armor Level?

The short answer? Not enough to justify the massive price difference between the two.
The long answer? I don't know. You'd have to ask someone with more knowledge of GW's combat equations than I have. |

I have heard +5 equates to between 8 and 9 percent damage reduction... So, assuming a linear damage curve, +1 is under 2%. As Aracos said, not a whole heck of a lot if you are short on cash.

There's a huge price gap? Most +5 defense mods can be bought for around 5k last I checked.
+5 armor is 8.3% damage reduction. +4 armor is 6.7% damage reduction. Difference is 1.6% damage. I'd personally just use a +4 armor mod until you can find or afford a +5 one - people usually throw +4s away, and a lot of +5s hit the trash bin as well, so you can usually get them cheaply if you ask consistently. Peace, -CxE

So receive damage -3 for example would be around a 6% reduction in damage?
EDIT (If i may add a small question without hijacking) What is the difference between a defense mod and a vs physical mod? VS elemental is self explanatory but i'm never sure whether to use a defense or a physical. Last edited by Tactical-Dillusions; Aug 26, 2005 at 01:27 AM // 01:27.. |

fireball at level 12 fire magic (the shadow elementalists use it)
Damage: 89 Damage (Critical): 126 Armor +4 Damage: 83 Damage (Critical): 117 Armor +5 Damage: 82 Damage (Critical): 115 assuming 60 AL armor (which all nonwarrior/rangers use) So its one damage according to http://www.rpgstars.com/characters/d...w_dmg_calc.php +4 armor : Target takes 87.71 damage. +5 armor : Target takes 86.2 damage. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/calculators/guru_armor.php The odd thing I find, is that it reduces more damage with higher Armor Level. for a warrior wearing platemail: RPGstars: Damage: 58, Damage (Critical): 82 Guru: Target takes 60.95 damage. +4 armor: RPGstars: Damage: 54, Damage (Critical): 76 Guru: Target takes 56.87 damage +5 armor: RPGStars: Damage: 53, Damage (Critical): 75 Guru: Target takes 55.89 damage Interesting... I see it has more impact on the critical damage than on the regular hit damage Quote:

I'm not getting a +30HP upgrade for any of my characters since it is pointless. That is what self heals are for, no?

The simple answer (and true, as well):
A difference of 1 in Armor Level reduces damage by 1.72 percent A difference of 5 in Armor Level reduces damage by 8.30 percent A difference of 40 in Armor Level reduces damage by 50.00 percent Formula is: 1 - 2^(-AL/40) |
